Kakia Skala LED integration
All of Kakia Skala's tunnels were recently updated from traditional lighting grades to dimmable LEDs. By doing so, the overall operational costs were reduced and better lighting inside the tunnels was achieved. As part of the project, Extrabit was responsible for integrating the OSRAM LED controllers with the rest of the Motorway Management System (MMS) and implementing some advanced functionality such as controlling the dimming in traffic and SCADA events generated by third systems like the AVID and Linear Heat Detection system.
Integration made simple!
Software PLC redundancy
Extrabit’s own software redundancy solution was utilized in this project. A pair of Schneider Electric’s M241 PLCs were used in a hot standby topology, constantly communicating with the rest of the equipment, such as the OSRAM LED control gateways and IBI’s Motorway Management System. The transition from one PLC to the next is automatic and almost instant. Our solution is universal and can be applied in various other situations.
Advanced Operation
The overall solution was designed and built from scratch by Extrabit’s engineers taking into consideration the requirements and limitations of all the interconnected systems. Various protocols were used, such as Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP and OPC DA, that allowed interoperability with minimum requirements for change in the rest of the systems. The end result was not only robust and effective, but also functioned transperantly and bridged two systems that could not communicate otherwise.
